The idea of implementing a group of cadets La Tuque had germinated in the minds of members of the Alumni Association of the Canadian Air Force in November 1955. I found

in excerpts from the press at the time of the elements of the chronology of the early years of the movement in La Tuque.

William A. Bishop, then president of the Alumni Association of the Aviation wing of La Tuque, is invited to travel to Montreal to learn about the movement of Air Cadets.

The squadron was established and we began to recruit cadets.

On the occasion of the presentation participants at the 24 th International Classic and canoes weighing their boat, the then mayor, Onesimus Dallaire received at City Hall the three candidates for the title "Queen of Air Cadet ' , Jacqueline Bouchard, Jeannine Desjardins and Jacqueline Roy. The three girls then participate in a concert by the Harmony of LT and to assert their singing talent.

During a dance, it was announced that 47 members had been recruited, and we will reveal the name of Queen Elect: Jacqueline Roy, daughter of Oscar Roy.

The first officers of the squadron leaders were Claude Panneton, the commander, assisted by AW Bishop and Jean-Claude Houle. Cadet training was provided by two civilian instructors: Jacques Bélanger and Louis Lejeune.

May 3, 1958 The first inspection of the group, held in the courtyard of the Ecole Saint-Zephirin, deeply impressed the people of CRA and people came to attend, including the president of the local RCAF Association, Joseph Tardif.

Squadron fills what was without doubt one of his early "functions" official. Its members form a guard of honor during the inauguration of the federal building, rue Saint-Joseph, which then housed the post office and central labor. The ceremony is presided by the Minister of Defence at the time, and the mayor Dallaire, just re-elected by acclamation.

The building of the Rue Saint-Joseph, now the town hall was built at a cost of $ 936,959.58!

Latuquois Among the many who, since 1958, helped oversee the activities of young cadets, there was Emile Cantin, whose two of the son, Robert and John, were cadets.

He spent over ten years of his spare time to deal with the financial administration of the squadron and the organization of its activities, in addition to accompanying the Cadets at several summer camps. Photos: Jean Cantin
